Some say the Golden Age of rail travel faded away years ago in Britain.
I'd say it's still with us. Just.?
おもに thanks to the country's two sleeper services ? the Caledonian Sleeper from?London Euston to the Highlands (a service I've reviewed and touted as Britain's 競争相手 for world's greatest rail 旅行) and GWR's Night Riviera from London Paddington to Penzance 経由で Taunton, which I discover on a trip to the end of Cornwall 申し込む／申し出s romance and thrills by the (示す III) carriage 負担.
This 旅行 is along one of the country's most scenic lines, takes in some of Isambard Kingdom Brunel's finest construction work ? 含むing one 特に breathtaking 橋（渡しをする） ? the beds are dreamily comfortable, the staff decidedly chipper, and there's an all-night 妨げる／法廷，弁護士業.
The ディーゼル locomotive-運ぶ／漁獲高d train 出発／死s London Paddington late in the day ? 11.45pm - but 乗客s can board from 10.30pm and hangout, if they have a sleeping 寝台／地位, at the first-class lounge on 壇・綱領・公約 one.

The 寝台／地位s can be 変えるd to a 小型の living room (promo 発射)
It's 公正に／かなり basic and not much to 令状 home about, but the train most certainly is. Hence this feature.
I'm travelling with my partner and six-year-old daughter ? who, like her ex-trainspotter dad ? is beside herself with excitement.
We're 迎える／歓迎するd in carriage F by GWR's Heidi, who seems 心から delighted to have us on board.
As she checks us into our 寝台／地位, she 明らかにする／漏らすs that just a couple of days 以前, 総理大臣 Rishi Sunak had used the service for a （選挙などの）運動をする-追跡する visit to Cornwall.
Heidi 明らかにする／漏らすs that the police 'suddenly appeared' at the start of her 転換 and 発表するd that they needed to carry out a sweep of the carriage.
She continued excitedly: 'I said, "What for?" And they told me the PM was on board.'
I'm sure Rishi would agree that it's a wonderful 操作／手術.
Ted 明らかにする／漏らすs that he isn't able to sit upright on his lower bunk. However, the 最高の，を越す bunk can be 倍のd away for 単独の travellers (promo 発射)
The rooms don't have にわか雨s or 洗面所s - but do have 沈むs hidden under lids (publicity 発射)
Heidi takes our complimentary room-service breakfast order ? croissants for the girls, sausage bap with ketchup for me, 加える coffees and orange juice ? then we 調査する our ４半期/4分の1s.
Which are most 招待するing.
Not Pullman 基準, by any means, but cosy and comfortable.
We have two interconnecting bunk-bed rooms, each with a 沈む hidden underneath a lid, a wafer-thin wardrobe with hangars and 瓶／封じ込めるs of mineral water in 支えるもの／所有者s at the 底（に届く）, 加える light switches, sockets and 非難する points at the pillow end of the bed.
接近 to the 最高の，を越す bunks, 一方／合間, is 経由で a clever space-saving 倍の-away ladder that unfurls from the 塀で囲むs. The 特別手当 is unimpeded 接近 to the 底（に届く） bunk (the ladders on the Caledonian Sleeper are bolted の上に the beds).
I'm also taken with the ambience ? the decor is a soothing mixture of browns and greys and the lights can be adjusted to create a hygge-y vibe.
The Night Riviera 出発／死 s from 壇・綱領・公約 one at London Paddington and is 運ぶ／漁獲高d by a Class 57 ディーゼル locomotive with a 最高の，を越す 速度(を上げる） of 95mph. The 旅行 to Penzance takes just over eight hours

Before bed, we 長，率いる to the lounge ca r, which is superb.
The 始める，決める-up here is like a first-class carriage with bells and whistles, an 招待するing mixture of expansive upright quad seats with （米）棚上げする／（英）提議するs, pairs of 操る-style armchairs positioned at jaunty angles, and banquettes.
Need to plug in a 装置? You're covered. The carriage is awash with 非難する points.
At one end is a 反対する where a chirpy barman is dispensing refreshments.
Here, there are 'leaning 地位，任命するs' fashioned like elongated mushrooms.
Quirky.

We procure a beer, a ワイン and a juice for the little one (軽食s and basic breakfast items are also 利用できる to 購入（する）) and sit 負かす／撃墜する at one of the （米）棚上げする／（英）提議するs for a game of GWR train 最高の，を越す Trumps (the old ones are the best, eh?).
The atmosphere in the carriage is convivial, with strangers talking to strangers. In London. On a train.
Whatever next?
It's time for bed, and the litmus 実験（する） for the Night Riviera ? does it 申し込む／申し出 a good night's sleep?
The result? A pass with 長所.
The pillows and duvets feel luxurious and the mattress is supportive.

The bed is a little on the 狭くする 味方する, but then, it's a train. I wasn't 推定する／予想するing a king-size.
Sleep is その上の 補佐官d by the design of the 示す III carriages used by the Night Riviera.
They were cutting 辛勝する／優位 when they were introduced in the 1970s ? and still 申し込む／申し出 one of the smoothest, quietest rides anywhere in Europe.
I have no trouble nodding off.
I wake up at around 5am to use one of the two loos at the end of the carriage, just as the train is passing over Isambard Kingdom Brunel's jaw-dropping 100ft-tall 王室の Albert 橋（渡しをする）, west of Plymouth, which crosses the River Tamar.
It's rightly considered a 国家の treasure ? and affords 乗客s magnificent 見解（をとる）s as the train trundles over it at 15mph.
Beyond this 橋（渡しをする） the train snakes through gorgeous Cornish countryside, past lush meadows, 古代の 廃虚s and at Hayle, a picturesque sandy estuary.
At 7am, our breakfast is 配達するd by the (still-cheerful) Heidi.
It's not really a golden-age-of-travel breakfast, but the coffee is good and the sausages are hot.
Annoyingly, I can't sit on the bed to eat it as the upper bunk is too low, so I dine standing up.
For 単独の travellers, this isn't やむを得ず a problem as the 底（に届く） bunk can be 変えるd to a sofa.
And there's always the 選択 of 修理ing to the lounge.
It's from here that I take in the final sight ? St Michael's 開始する, which 支配するs the bay Penzance sits on.
We pull in まっただ中に 炎ing 日光, freshen up with a にわか雨 in the first-class lounge ? you can pre-調書をとる／予約する use of these on the train when you board ? and 反映する on a service that, a s I'm sure the PM would agree, is an excellent, 強調する／ストレス-解放する／自由な way of reaching the West Country.
