- All-new Dacia Spring finally comes to the UK and it costs from £14,995
- It is the first truly 'cheap' EV in Britain having sold 140k 部隊s in Europe in 3 years
- We 実験(する)d it in フラン to find out if this 予算 モーター could be suitable for you?
Electric cars 簡単に don't get any cheaper than the Spring.?
定価つきの from £14,995, Dacia says it will 'make electric mobility accessible for all'.
And plenty have already jumped at the chance to own one, with 140,000 登録s across Europe where Spring has been on sale for the last three years.
So we're a bit behind here in the UK, with the 権利-手渡す model only arriving now.
Britain's cheapest electric car, the Dacia Spring, is 利用できる in the UK. It cost from just £14,995 and is 始める,決める to shake up the electric market, 覆うing the way for 現実に afforda ble EVs. We drove it on 開始する,打ち上げる in Bordeaux to find out what it's like as a daily driver
But with a raft of 2024 updates and 改良s that make it 'all-new', the Spring will 現れる in Britain at a pivotal moment for the EV 移行, 特に with the 禁止(する) on sales of 石油 and ディーゼル models 推定する/予想するd to be 加速するd to 2030.
We've driven the Spring 井戸/弁護士席 ahead of its 上陸 on UK shores at the 公式の/役人 開始する,打ち上げる in Bordeaux to find out if it can change the EV affordability game once and for all or if building an electric car to a 予算 results in a 偽の experience.
Dacia Spring could be a catalyst moment for EVs?
Not that Dacia has anything to do with it, but our new 労働 政府 is 広範囲にわたって 推定する/予想するd to bring 今後 the 禁止(する) on 石油 and ディーゼル cars to 2030.?
With いっそう少なく than six years until all new models entering the market have to be electric, many licence 支えるもの/所有者s are worried they'll be unable to afford to switch because new EVs are typically much more expensive than their 燃料 相当するものs.
But the arrival of Dacia's Spring could be a 抱擁する catalyst moment, 証明するing that car 製造者s can truly 供給する drivers with affordable new 殴打/砲列 cars.?
With a new 労働 政府 始める,決める to bring the 禁止(する) on new 石油 and ディーゼル cars 今後 once again to 2030, cheap EVs like the Spring are 決定的な to getting the UK on electric wheels cheaply
Citroen's new EV: The French car 会社/堅い has 明かすd its e-C3, which is 予定 in UK showrooms in 2024 with a starting price of £21,990, pinning it 長,率いる-to-長,率いる with Chinese 競争相手s
Affordable small EVs on the way: The electric Volkswagen ID.2 (ID.2all 概念 pictured left) is 推定する/予想するd to go on sale in 2026 for いっそう少なく than £22k. The Hyundai Inster (権利) will (警官の)巡回区域,受持ち区域 it to the market, arriving next spring for around the same price?
And it has already dragged a few other 製造業者s along for the low-cost EV ride.
It will be joined by the?new £21,990 Citroen e-C3?開始する,打ち上げるing later this year. Next spring, 顧客s will also be able to get their 手渡すs on the sub-£22,000 Hyundai Inster, and a year later the?Volkswagen ID.2 is 予定 to arrive at a 近づく-£20k price point.
It's fair to say the Spring is spearheading a new wave of genuinely affordable EVs.
Better news still, by the time the 内部の 燃焼 engine 禁止(する) rolls around in 2030, the used market will be 紅潮/摘発するd with these cheaper EVs at very attainable prices.
How much will it cost?
It's perhaps an unorthodox approach to start a review with the price - and certainly not very British to talk about cost so brashly - but this is the cheapest EV in the UK to date, so it's really a 事例/患者 of: what do you get for the money?
予定 to 必要物/必要条件s for UK 買い手s, the no-frills, stripped-out, tech-drained 必須の 削減する 利用できる どこかよそで in Europe isn't going to be sold here.
Instead, the UK's 入ること/参加(者)-level 削減する level is called 表現. This costs £14,995 and comes with the choice of two powertrains - 45hp or 65hp. The 65hp 見解/翻訳/版 will be £1,000 more.
That's incredibly cheap by today's EV 基準s. With 殴打/砲列s 存在 極端に expensive, it's a bit of a shock that Dacia is even making a 利益(をあげる) on Spring at all.
The second - 範囲-topping - 削減する is Extreme, which only 申し込む/申し出s 65hp and costs £16,995.
Cost saving 切り開く/タクシー/不正アクセスs are all around - 公式文書,認める just one windscreen wiper. Why have two when one will 十分である??
現在/一般に, the cheapest new EV on sale today is the Fiat 500e, which - 儀礼 of the Italian brand's E-認める 計画/陰謀 - (犯罪の)一味s in at £21,995. It means the Dacia is £7,000 more affordable.< /p>
The Spring also fits into the 最小限 行う Salary Sacrifice bracket - another price 加える point that's likely to 誘発する a 殺到する in EV (n)艦隊/(a)素早い 登録s.?
So the UK's 入ること/参加(者)-level 削減する is 現実に the 中央の-level 表現 削減する. This costs £14,995 which comes with the choice of two powertrains - 45hp or 65hp. The 65hp 見解/翻訳/版 is £1,000 more
The second 削減する, or 最高の,を越す 削減する, the Extreme only 申し込む/申し出s 65hp and costs £16,995. 現在/一般に the cheapest EV in the UK is the MG4, which starts from an almost £10k extra, £26,995 - so the Spring 意味ありげに undercuts this
What is the 範囲 and 非難する experience going to be like in such a cheap EV??
Both Spring powertrains 申し込む/申し出 140 miles of 範囲.
However, given this is predominantly 目的(とする)d at city dwellers, Dacia also gives a 引用するd 都市の-範囲 人物/姿/数字 of 190 miles.?
While this is far shorter than the 最新の - very pricey - EVs with the longest 選び出す/独身-告発(する),告訴(する)/料金 運動ing distances, Dacia has an equation to make 140 miles make sense.?
For the last few years, owners of Springs on 普通の/平均(する) are using them for 23 miles per day - that's によれば on-board computer data collected from 存在するing EU owners. This consists of four trips every 24 hours.
Britons likely cover even いっそう少なく than that.
NimbleFins, a 研究 and data-driven personal 財政/金融 場所/位置, calculates that 普通の/平均(する) mileage in Britain in 2022 was 6,600 - that 作品 out at only 18 miles per day.
As such, the Spring could - in theory - only need to be 告発(する),告訴(する)/料金d once a week (ever 7.8 days to be exact).
Which leads me to the next question: how long will a 告発(する),告訴(する)/料金 take??
Because the 26.8kWh is small, Dacia says 急速な/放蕩な 非難する at 120kW gives a 十分な 殴打/砲列 in 56 mins, while an 夜通し 告発(する),告訴(する)/料金 on a 基準 7kW homecharger will be 完全にするd in just four hours.
Use a 従来の three-pin 国内の plug and it will take just over 13.5 hours to 補充する the 殴打/砲列. However, I?wouldn't recommend this. It's not the safest 選択 and can 損失 old wiring in your home. It's always best to 避ける 塀で囲む plugs unless i n 緊急s or when staying at a friend's house.
It's also 価値(がある) 公式文書,認めるing that the Spring comes with a helpful 新規加入 of bi-directional 乗り物-to-負担 (V2L). This means you can its 殴打/砲列 as an energy source to 力/強力にする your electronic 装置s, like a kettle or to 力/強力にする a laptop. To do so, you can use a three-pin converter plug that goes into the car's 非難する socket.

The Dacia Spring's 非難する socket is hidden away behind the brand's logo beneath the bonnet?
What's this cheap EV like to 運動?
Incredibly, the Dacia Spring 重さを計るs いっそう少なく than one tonne.
普通は, EVs are a fair bit heavier than ICE 相当するものs. For instance, the small electric Peugeot 208 hatchback 重さを計るs almost two tonnes, which makes the Spring feather light EV in comparison.
This hugely helps energy 消費 and explains why such a pint-sized 殴打/砲列 pack can 変える to 140 miles of 放出/発行s-解放する/自由な 運動ing.?
By using the Spring's 'B-方式' regenerative ブレーキing setting, you can eek out extra mileage, too. The ブレーキs will 収穫 energy as you slow 負かす/撃墜する around town, and the one-pedal 運動 (which only has one setting) does make popping out and about smooth and 極小の 成果/努力.
にもかかわらず the car's chunkier looks, and raised 中断, don't 推定する/予想する to get adventurous off-road - it's 前線-wheel 運動 only.
The Spring 重さを計るs いっそう少なく than 1 tonne - it's a small, feather light EV with 140 miles of 範囲 and very low energy 消費
We drove the 65hp 見解/翻訳/版, which has more get up and go from the start line - 0 to 62mph in 13.7 secs. 最高の,を越す 速度(を上げる) is 78mph. It's not going to break 速度(を上げる) 記録,記録的な/記録するs, but it is brilliant nifty and nippy around town, and can manage 罰金 larger roads
I drove the 65hp 見解/翻訳/版, which has more get up and go from the start line.
A 0-to-62mph jaunt takes a 比較して 歩行者 13.7 seconds, though I 設立する it perfectly 適する to keep pace with French traffic on 二重の carriageways.?
The 45hp 見解/翻訳/版 takes nearly 20 seconds (19.7s) to do the same 'sprint'. Now that is slow!?
最高の,を越す 速度(を上げる) for both cars is 限られた/立憲的な to 78mph, so you'll need to try your 絶対の damnedest to break the 限界 on motorways (not that I recommend doing so).?
Speaking of motorways, I did 遭遇(する) a few occasions when the Spring's small 負わせる resulted in it - and I - 存在 blown about a bit. Big lorries and gusts of 勝利,勝つd certainly aren't the Spring's best friends, but it 扱うs uneven road surfaces and 速度(を上げる) bumps 井戸/弁護士席 for a tiny thing.
Updated electric 力/強力にする steering tuning, a new steering column and a change of 15-インチ tyres also should mean 改善するd ride 扱うing over the Spring that's been sold in Europe for the last few years, Dacia (人命などを)奪う,主張するs.
It 扱うs bumps in 扱うs uneven road surfaces and 速度(を上げる) bumps 井戸/弁護士席 for a tiny thing, but it does let in a lot of road and 勝利,勝つd noise
That said, I 設立する the steering to 欠如(する) precision and is definitely on the looser 味方する, which wasn't all that surprising for a city car built to such a tight 予算. Anyone 推定する/予想するing sports car levels 支配する and communication need to 再評価する their 期待s for £14,995.
The 加える point of the car is it's just so nifty around town: there is no gap in traffic, no parking space, no tight traffic 静めるing 手段 that the Spring can't squeeze through or into.
The 4.8-metre turning 半径 is God's gift to U-turns. It was refreshingly fun to be able to just chuck a car around, knowing you'll be able to tuck in anywhere.?
In a world of ginormous SUVs, this feels like a novelty.?
The fabric seats are soft and comfortable though, and there's plenty of space for the driver and 前線 乗客. The Spring coming to the UK has a three-way adjustable steering wheel too, which is an 改良 on the European model
内部の and practicality
The Spring is a five-seater, but it's a five-seater that's only 3.7 metres long, just shy of 1.6 metres wide and a smidge over 1.5 metres tall.
These are 測定s drivers were last 熟知させるd with in the 1950s - though is something many green 選挙運動者s wants to see return in a world where e-mobility becomes king.?
To put the Spring's dimensions into 状況, a?1949 Citroen 2CV is just 3.8m long, 1.48m wide and 1.6m high. It could carry four people and 50kg of luggage, too.?
Squeezing three people in the 支援する of the Spring is achievable but not something I'd 支持する, unless you really want to become 井戸/弁護士席-熟知させるd with your fellow 乗客s.?
For young kids, it's 罰金. But I was struggling for 脚 room and I'm only 5'3.?
With a sense of humour, a pile-in would be good fun, but I imagine more than an hour would be hard work at best.

The boot button was fiddly, though, and seemed to have a mind of its own as to whether it was going to open, or catch in the lock and 辞退する to.
Need a little extra space for an 夜通し 捕らえる、獲得する or somewhere to 蓄える/店 a spare pair of footwear? There's also a small 35-litre luggage box under the 'froot' - that's a 前線 boot.??

同様に as a class-主要な boot, the Spring also has some 貯蔵 under its bonnet. There is 35 litres of 'luggage' capacity under the 'froot' - that's a 前線 boot
The 内部の is smartly designed by using wash 負かす/撃墜する rubber on the 床に打ち倒すs, and the plastics are all 平易な wipe clean.
Dacia has done the 最大の to make the 予算 構成要素s feel fun with a funky, chunky design and colours.?
The 黒人/ボイコット 内部の on our model had white contrasting パネル盤s, bronze and Dacia-green 最高潮の場面s and looked pretty 冷静な/正味の, I think.
選ぶ for the pricier Extreme 削減する and it will come with a seven-インチ 数字表示式の driver's 陳列する,発揮する and a 10-インチ touchscreen infotainment system.?
Bluetooth could only sync new 装置s of 乗客s at a 行き詰まり, which did feel a bit outdated. However, there are 多重の USBc ports, 同様に as Apple CarPlay and Android 自動車.?
Considering this price point, it's 井戸/弁護士席-equipped.?
The 内部の is basic with cheap 構成要素s but it's been 井戸/弁護士席-designed to be funky and practical, which makes it a quirky and enjoyable place to be. The seven-インチ driver's 陳列する,発揮する and 10-インチ infotainment 審査する on the Extreme 削減する are pretty good for the price point
The 内部の is button 激しい, which will please the many 運転者s who have had enough of minimalist 内部の without any 平易な-接近 buttons
The Spring has an actual physical handbrake - the first I've seen on an EV. Actual 手動式の physical 成果/努力 is 伴う/関わるd in 運動ing again - it's a refreshing new world
The 飛行機で行く in the Spring's ointment: safety
In 2021, the Spring was awarded a one-星/主役にする (out of five) Euro NCAP safety 率ing - the lowest a modern car can get.?
At the 開始する,打ち上げる, Dacia was asked whether this one-星/主役にする 率ing would be re-評価するd for the new model, but bosses 確認するd it will not.
The company's execs say that the 'all-new Spring' comes with the 控訴 of ADAS [前進するd Driver 援助 System] to 会合,会う the 最新の European?全世界の Safety 規則 2 (GSR2) safety 基準s: an?前進するd 緊急 ブレーキing system (with 乗り物, 歩行者, cyclist, and motorcycle (犯罪,病気などの)発見), traffic 調印する 承認 with 速度(を上げる) 警報, 後部 park 補助装置, 緊急 stop signal, 小道/航路 change 警報, 小道/航路 keep 補助装置, driver attention 警告, and 緊急 call (eCall).?
There's also a quick 接近 'My Safety' button on the dash that can turn the ADAS off if you want to switch off say 小道/航路 補助装置 etc quickly.?
When 実験(する)d in 2021 by Euro NCAP, the Dacia Spring 得点する/非難する/20d a one-星/主役にする 率ing - the lowest a modern car can get. While the updated 見解/翻訳/版 get a 控訴 of new ADAS tech, the company says it will not be re-査定する/(税金などを)課すd
But these 新規加入 of ADAS will not change the Euro NCAP one-星/主役にする 率ing - Dacia has 確認するd that will be staying and the car won't be retested by the safety group.
While small and cheap cars don't tend to have all the 最新の safety gizmos to 令状 high 得点する/非難する/20s, other small EVs do get four 星/主役にするs, like the Fiat 500e, so it's not just a 事例/患者 of 制限 of tech.
Spring's 衝突,墜落 実験(する) results also (機の)カム 支援する with low 得点する/非難する/20s of just 49 per cent for Adult Occupant safety and 56 per cent for Child Occupant safety.?
It's here that the Spring really 落ちるs 負かす/撃墜する, with poorer 保護 for 前線 乗客s and a greater 危険 of whiplash for 後部 occupants.
Honestly, this should be a major consideration for anyone buying a Spring, 特に if they're planning to 輸送(する) others on a 正規の/正選手 basis.?
配達/演説/出産 times and warranty
Every Dacia is covered by a three-year, 60,000-mile warranty, and the 殴打/砲列 comes with a separate eight-year/75,000-mile warranty.
配達/演説/出産s will begin in October, but 150 French left-手渡す 運動 cars will be in showrooms around the UK before then for 顧客s to see, touch and feel before making an order.

Dacia Spring: the Cars & モーターing 判決
Many of the most famous compact classic cars of today - like the 初めの 小型の, Fiat 500, Citroen 2CV and iconic?VW Beetle - were born to bring モーターing to the 集まりs.
These 乗り物s were the first 'practical small cars' produced. They might be icons today, but at the time their success was symbolised by two numbers: low up-前線 cost and high sales 人物/姿/数字s.
The Spring ticks both of those boxes in modern EV times with a 予算-破産した/(警察が)手入れするing price tag and already impressive 登録s 割当 on the continent.
But while most of its 制限s can be overlooked and 正当化するd by its affordability, its lackluster safety 得点する/非難する/20 could be too big a 関心 for many 買い手s.
What Spring does better than any other EV, though, is 証明する that affordable electric モーターing is achievable today, and in a very endearing 一括.
For daily 無 放出/発行s 運動ing and very little money, you can be 配達するd door to door on very 削減(する) wheels.?
It's proof that EVs can be cars for needs and not wants and for that 推論する/理由 it has to be 拍手喝采する.
Other car 製造業者s will?hopefully follow 控訴 very soon and I'm sure they'll be keeping their 注目する,もくろむs 堅固に 直す/買収する,八百長をするd on Dacia's sales 人物/姿/数字s for the 来たるべき 4半期/4分の1s.
