The chairwoman of the Culture, ¥Þ¥¹¥³¥ß and Sport °Ñ°÷²ñ has said she feels 'very sorry' for Huw Edwards and his family after the BBC newsreader ¼¿¦¤¹¤ëd ¤Ë°ú¤Â³¤¤¤Æ ¼çÄ¥s that he paid a young person for sexually explicit photos.
Britain's most famous newsreader, 62, has been off ¶õµ¤¡¿¸øɽ¤¹¤ë since last July after the ¼çÄ¥s ¸½¤ì¤ëd. He ¼¿¦¤¹¤ëd from the ²ñ¼Ò¡¿ÃÄÂÎ earlier this week on advice of his doctors.?
The BBC said its À±¡¿¼çÌò¤Ë¤¹¤ë ÉÅ¡¤Áí¹ç»Ê²ñ¼Ô, who?broke the news of Queen Elizabeth II's death,?left the ²ñ¼Ò¡¿ÃÄÂÎ on health grounds. However, they did not ¤Ë¤Ä¤¤¤Æ¸ÀµÚ¤¹¤ë ¡Ê¿ÍÌ¿¤Ê¤É¤ò¡ËÃ¥¤¦¡¤¼çÄ¥¤¹¤ës that he sent more than ¡ ò35,000 to a ½½Âå¤Î¾¯Ç¯¾¯½÷ in return for sexually explicit photographs.
Dame Caroline Dinenage told the ȯ¸À¤¹¤ë¡¿É½ÌÀ¤¹¤ë of the Listener & ¥Æ¥ì¥Ó»ëÄ°¼Ô (VLV) spring ²ñµÄ¡¿¶¨µÄ²ñ on Wednesday: 'The BBC are in a really difficult position over things like this because at the point that the ¼çÄ¥s were made last summer, it was ÉÔÌÀÎÆ¤Ê as to Àµ³Î¤Ë¡¿¤Þ¤µ¤Ë who was making the ¼çÄ¥s and Àµ³Î¤Ë¡¿¤Þ¤µ¤Ë what they were.'

'It turns out now, of course, that the way Huw Edwards was ¹Ô°Ù¡¿¹Ô¤¦ing himself was outside o f work time, on his own ´ï¶ñ¡¿È÷ÉÊ, and it was a consensual activity with someone who was of age, so ¸½¼Â¤Ë nothing, as much as it may be distasteful to some, it was nothing °ãË¡¤Ê happened and he's ¤¹¤ë¸¢Íø¤òÍ¿¤¨¤ëd to a »äŪ¤Ê life.'
Ms Dineage, who is also the ÊݼéŪ¤Ê MP for Gosport, Äɲ乤ëd: 'I feel very sorry for him and I feel ÆÃ¤Ë sorry for his family.
'Whether there's anything more that the BBC could have done to have changed that, I don't know.
'But it's horrible. It feels fundamentally wrong that someone's whole life has been »¼ºd irreparably by something like that.'
Edwards had been absent from ¿³ºº¤¹¤ës since the story first broke and his wife °ÊÁ° said he was receiving in-´µ¼Ô hospital care and ¶ì¤·¤àing "serious mental health ÌäÂ꡿ȯ¹Ô¤¹¤ës".
The family of the ̵̾¤Î young person ½é¤á¤Ï complained to the BBC about Edwards in May 2023, and Edwards was ¸øÁ³¤È »Ø̾¤¹¤ëd by his wife as the BBC presenter at the centre of the ¼çÄ¥s in July.
In a À¼ÌÀ ²òÊü¡Ê¤¹¤ë¡Ëd by Mr Edward's wife Vicky Flind last year, she said that he was receiving in-´µ¼Ô hospital care ¤Ë°ú¤Â³¤¤¤Æ the ¡Ê¿ÍÌ¿¤Ê¤É¤ò¡ËÃ¥¤¦¡¤¼çÄ¥¤¹¤ës first Êó¹ð¡Ê¤¹¤ë¡Ë¡¿²±Â¬d in The Sun that he paid a ½½Âå¤Î¾¯Ç¯¾¯½÷ for explicit photographs

In February, the BBC apologised to the young person's family, who'd complained about Edwards two months before he was °ì»þÄä»ß¤¹¤ëd.
